The opening of Berghaus' first global flagship store marks an important moment for both the brand and Manchester. For a company whose roots are closely tied to the North of England, creating a permanent physical destination in the city feels less like a retail launch and more like a statement about identity, community and the enduring value of place. The result is an environment that translates those ideas into a tangible customer experience.
The flagship gives Berghaus a permanent physical destination where customers can experience the brand, its products, specialist advice, community activity and its free repair service - Repairhaus.
Flagship stores often serve as the clearest expression of a brand's ambitions. In Manchester, the challenge wasn't simply creating a retail space, but creating a destination that reflects Berghaus' heritage, outdoor expertise and growing role within contemporary outdoor culture
Translating an established creative vision into a functioning retail environment is where design thinking becomes reality. Every fixture, surface, material and technical detail contributes to how a brand is understood in three dimensions. The role of detailed design is often invisible to visitors, but it is what allows the original intent to be experienced consistently throughout the space.
Working closely with Berghaus and specialist partners, we developed fixtures, materials, finishes and technical details, reviewed prototypes ahead of manufacture and helped resolve practical issues before installation.
Material authenticity and environmental storytelling were central to the scheme. Carefully sourced rock formations introduce texture and a tangible connection to the landscapes that inspire the brand, while bespoke lighting solutions were developed in partnership with specialist suppliers to enhance product displays, highlight architectural features and elevate the overall retail experience.

There is a particular significance in Berghaus choosing Manchester as the home of its first global flagship. The city has long been shaped by innovation, industry and cultural independence, qualities that naturally align with a brand built around exploration and resilience. Bringing those connections into the physical environment helps create a store that feels authentic to both the brand and its location.
“This brand store is a major moment for Berghaus and the result of a huge collaborative effort. Teams and partners from across the globe have come together to create a retail experience rooted in our heritage and DNA, and in our belief that ‘the outdoors belongs to everyone'."
Bob Neville, Global Head of Retail at Pentland Brands Ltd
As brands continue to rethink the role of physical retail, flagship spaces are becoming something more than points of sale. They are places to build community, tell stories and create experiences that cannot be replicated online. Berghaus' Manchester flagship demonstrates how thoughtful retail design can bring heritage, expertise and brand purpose together in a way that feels both relevant and lasting.

Great retail environments do more than showcase products. They create lasting connections between people, brands and place. If you're exploring how your next retail space can do the same, let’s talk.
